Who’s Heading to the Aspen?

HBO Comedy Festival LogoThere’s no full line-up for 2007 as of yet on the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival site, but here’s what can be gleamed from various blogs:

  • Chicago comic Mike Bridenstine congratulated fellow Chicago comic T.J. Miller on making Aspen on his myspace blog. This link does not lead to T.J. Miller’s website.
  • Also, from Chicago, The Bastion reports the sketch duo kevINda will be part of the festivities. Here’s an effusive review of their Aspen Showcase performance.
  • Wendi McLendon-Covey, who plays Clementine Johnson on Reno 911!, reports that she has a film co-wrote and produced called Cook-Off! which will play the fest. You can see a clip (or two) of Cook-Off! here. It’ll be a big month for her because only a week prior on February 23, the Reno 911! movie will be hitting theaters. No word yet if a third movie with a title finishing in a “!” will complete the trilogy.
  • You - in that terrible, terrible Time Magazine Cover sense. Ziddio in conjunction with Rhapsody is holding a contest entitled “No Talent Nation” for web folks who upload something funny. Exactly what that would be is up to the submitter, but there’s a little hint that they’re looking for musical parodies as Ziddio secured the copyright of 24 songs of the largely cheesy 80s variety (including Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It") for people to use in their videos. There’s ten grand prize winners will get flown to Aspen, one of which will be the winner and get to perform in the “No Talent Nation” showcase. Budding Weird Als, here’s your chance...

I was up at Aspen last weekend and caught T.J. Miller’s set...I do not understand what the fuss is about.  This is a very young comic that has a LOT to learn.  Very poor set, and the material, honestly, below average at best. I was not impressed.

Patton Oswalt goes straight to his demo this weekend, performing in Saturday's closing ceremonies for BlizzCon for players of World of Warcraft. A more perfect nerdgasm I cannot imagine.

Rumor has it Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin may appear on Saturday Night Live. She might play Tina Fey as she appears in the American Express commercials.

New on DVD: the Second Season of 30 Rock and the South Park collection "The Cult of Cartman: Revelations"

Tina Fey will pen a book of humorous essays for Little, Brown & Co. Her deal will involve a donation to the charity Books for Kids (who probably couldn't read Fey's book 'til they're older).

If you're ever driving through Georgia, you may want to stop by the Laurel and Hardy museum in the town of Harlem. Oliver Hardy was born in the town in 1892.
