Among those scheduled for the upcoming New Yorker Festival are Stephen Colbert and Matt Groening. Tickets will be available starting September 12. More information here.

Gavin Purcell, a producer of G4tv's Attack of the Show, will join Jimmy Fallon's "Late Night" as co-producer. Fallon is a fan of "Attack" and wants the new version of "Late Night" to be as Internet-savvy.

Bobby Moynihan will join Saturday Night Live for its 34th season. A regular at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater and member of sketch group The Buffoons, Moynihan recently performed with SNL castmembers in the web serial "The Line."

Responding to Apple's brilliant campaign featuring John Hodgman and Justin Long, Microsoft recruits Jerry Seinfeld to do commercials for Vista. Previously, Demetri Martin was involved with Vista's launch. Yeah, that's the problem with Windows: the wrong comic was promoting it.

Steve Byrne on stand-up as a biz: "it’s just kind of like this free-floating kind of wild west profession... there’s no union really; there’s no schools to attend; there’s no right way of becoming a professional comedian… along the way, I’ve definitely gotten ripped off by representation, by managers, by agents." (Business Shrink)

A very elaborate map of The Simpsons hometown of Springfield shows pretty much every location on the show. Undoubtably will be used to crucify writers on some future story detail. (VideoGum)

Joe Wong, a Chinese-American stand-up, performed in China for the first time recently. Differences: performers are usually duos and audiences wait for punchlines and applaud more than laugh. Also, American Asian stereotypes are attributed to Americans generally.

30 Rock's comedy writing Emmy chances may be hampered by having two nominations, splitting the vote. The Variety handicapper also dislikes Paul Scheer apparently, citing his guest staring character as a drain on both plots. WTF?

Dick Cavett wonders why anybody would want to grow up to be a comedian? A former stand-up himself, he cites on-the-job hazards like the shocking difference between the love on stage and the loneliness in your hotel room.

How to do stand-ups adapt to the writing room? TV Writer Ken Levine opines a big obstacle is the stand-up's persona, making every joke they write sound lie their act rather than the characters they're writing.

Seven thousand come to Chicago's south side to mourn Bernie Mac. As Cedric the Entertainer told the crowd, "He's still the hottest ticket in town!" Donations can be made at Mac's foundation for Sarcoidosis

Richard Basciano, Jamie Masada's former partner for Laugh Factory NYC, disputes Masada's intimidation charges. Basciano claims the club never made money and that Masada wants him out to open a new Laugh Factory.

Jeffrey Ross on comedy specials: "the trick for me was how to make it cut through the clutter... Everything you see on TV now is very bright; and some of these comedy specials look like game shows." (Punchline)

Despite a (faux) less-than-successful pilot taping, Comedy Central will bring a new pilot from Michaels Ian Black and Showalter to series. The show focus on the pairs "issues" with each other and the world.

Steve Carell and Tina Fey will play husband and wife in the upcoming comedy "Date Night." The high concept-y plot leavened by the fact that you couldn't cast a funnier duo.

Apply Improv's "Yes, And" to your day-to-day activities and make your whole life one big "Harold." (Lifehacker)

Comedy contest offers a chance to open for Dave Attell but also takes care of a more pressing concern: paying your rent. Up to $1500.

Advocates for the disabled plan boycott of "Tropic Thunder." Upset Ben Stiller-helmed comedy features an actor who attempts to earn an Oscar playing a mentally-challenged man (and missing that its targeting actors, not the disabled).

Bernie Brillstein dead at 77. Managed many big names including Lorne Michaels and John Belushi, who famously attained Brillistein's management by tricking him backstage immediately prior to the broadcast of SNL's first episode.
