Joe Rogan on open mikes: "Lack of open mike nights is what really kills local comedy scenes... [In Boston] there were so many places to get up and perform, and so many other comics doing the same thing. Stand-up comics, especially in the beginning when they’re developing, they need a local scene." (SF Stand-Up)

Responding to Apple's brilliant campaign featuring John Hodgman and Justin Long, Microsoft recruits Jerry Seinfeld to do commercials for Vista. Previously, Demetri Martin was involved with Vista's launch. Yeah, that's the problem with Windows: the wrong comic was promoting it.

Steve Byrne on stand-up as a biz: "it’s just kind of like this free-floating kind of wild west profession... there’s no union really; there’s no schools to attend; there’s no right way of becoming a professional comedian… along the way, I’ve definitely gotten ripped off by representation, by managers, by agents." (Business Shrink)

Rainn Wilson wants his comedy "the Rocker" to open well. So he's kidnapped Office co-star Jenna Fischer and says he'll free her if the film makes 18.7 million. Risky? If the bit's get too funny, maybe people will stay home to see what he'll do to Jenna.

How to do stand-ups adapt to the writing room? TV Writer Ken Levine opines a big obstacle is the stand-up's persona, making every joke they write sound lie their act rather than the characters they're writing.
Seven thousand come to Chicago's south side to mourn Bernie Mac. As Cedric the Entertainer told the crowd, "He's still the hottest ticket in town!" Donations can be made at Mac's foundation for Sarcoidosis
