Post Love Guru, Mike Myers is penning Austin Powers 4, which is said to focus on Dr. Evil and his son Scott. Myers came up with the film's plot while dealing spiritually with his father's passing. It's a little sad to snark about.

Dick Doherty, a longtime fixture in the Boston comedy scene, severs ties with Boston Comedy Festival. Upset that the initial rounds of comedy contest have been moved to a Hard Rock and that the fest is honoring the Smother Bros, who have no Beantown ties.
Despite his dread, Dick Cavett was impressed with the young comics he judged in the Great American Comedy Festival, which celebrates Johnny Carson. Cavett also corrects a misquote of a classic line he said in a Carson appearance.
Maria Bamford is recording her third CD at the UCB-LA on August 13th. Tentative title: "Unwanted Thoughts Syndrome." Tickets are still available.
In NYC at the end of August? You can catch Doug Benson tape his second Comedy Central Presents on the 27th. Tickets will be available on ocatv.com sometime soon.
Cheech and Chong reunite for the "What's That Smell?" comedy tour. First time the pair will tour together in more than 25 years, but they only remember 7 of those.
Comedy Central accepts its first political ad. Naturally, it'll appear during "Daily Show" and "Colbert" and, also naturally, it'll be a MoveOn commercial for Barack Obama.

Just For Laughs Toronto comes only a week after its big Montreal fest, but draws 153,000 with names like Martin Short, Robert Shimmel, Jeff Ross and Jeff Dunham.
25
"The Office" is coming to Russia. BBC sold right to Russia's Channel One who will make 24 episodes. The true universal language: boredom with your job.

BlueCollarOrDie.com has folded. Country cousin of Will Ferrell's Funny Or Die failed to gain traction in crowded comedy world. Even quick remake into KungFuTodd didn't save it.
David Cross will star with Michael Vartan in "Demoted", a comedy where Cross' character becomes Vartan's boss after years of teasing at the later's hands.
22
Bill Burr will go off on a rant for Comedy Central in "Purgatory", a series that has Burr talking about a topic "with no reading, no research -- just strong opinions" a la Bill O'Reilly and Keith Olbermann
Jimmy Fallon will start his Late Night hosting gig with some trial runs on the Internet. They won't be the whole show, just 5 to 10 minutes, but they will be released at 12:30 each evening.

Tonight Show Turnover. Jay Leno will give up the keys on May 29. Conan O'Brien takes over June 1. Not much of a gap at all...
The San Francisco Sketchfest is now accepting applications to take part in its next festival. The submission period runs from July 1st to October 15th.
The New York Times gives a rather negative review for Stop Me If You've Heard This, Jim Holt's book on the philosophy of jokes.
Saturday Night Live will start its season September 13 with four live shows in a row, something Lorne Michaels avoided in the past. Also will have three prime-time specials, the first October 9.

This list of five awful Saturday Night Live hosts can't entirely be proven, since Lorne Michaels won't let the Milton Berle-hosted episode see the light of day again. Which is probably a good thing.
The trailer for Ghost Town, the "Ricky Gervais plays a dick who learns to be a better person thanks to dead people" movie, just went up. That's probably all you need to see of it.
Fox execs think comedy writers are uncomfortable pitching in stuffy offices. So they suggest they'll take pitches at restaurants or at writers' homes. Also, will fund writers to shoot short comedy web vids to test concepts.
Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman break up after five years. I'd suppose that means any possible bits featuring the pair are out as well.
14
Rosie O'Donnell will appear as herself in the American version of Little Britain. And she sounds game too. Asked in sketch if she's a lesbian because she's too big to get a man.
Image Entertainment will release up to 7 more stand-up comedy DVDs produced by Levity Entertainment, including an upcoming Christmas special from Jeff Dunham.
Besides superheroes, nerds also like funny stuff. See the Comic-Con panels on Humor & Satire, including panels for Robert Smigel, a MST3K Reunion, the Sarah Silverman Program, the Office and, of course, MAD Magazine.

Bernie Mac tells a couple of off-color jokes at a fundraiser for Barack Obama. Uses the word "ho" which drew a heckle and a comment from the candidate to "clean up your act."
