I am looking for a comic who would like to make a few dollars writing a few funny lines for me to use in promotional pieces. I can’t pay much, but I am willing to be fair. I want to test this approach with one client of mine. If it works, we can almost certainly get you more work of this kind.
I host and develop websites, and my customers are primarily local businesses. It’s always tough getting noticed online (as you probably know yourselves). So anything one can do to promote one’s business can be…well…helpful!
Here is the idea. I would ask the client for whom we would do this to give me a list of, say, 5 do’s or dont’s regarding his/her business. The test case will be a client who runs a tree service business: tree trimming, tree removals, and other tree work in a customer’s backyard, etc.
The topic would be something like, 5 Things You Should Never Do When Trimming Your Trees.
My client will give me his normal, unfunny list of 5 things. Then, I would give the list to you and ask you to rewrite it to make them funny (without going too far from the list he originally gave me).
Once you give me your funnier 5 things list, I’ll turn it over to an illustrator, who will draw 5 little illustrations, one for each item on the list. Then, I will turn everything over to a graphic designer to turn it into a graphic that features your five funny things, each with its own illustration.
We’ll market this graphic by inviting people to share it with their friends via social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), as well as sharing it with other people in the same (trees) industry.
I don’t even know if this will work, but I figure it’s worth a few dollars to give it a try.
