I posted portions of this in the thread about favorite stand-up comics, but I felt it was important enough to deserve its own thread.

Anyway, this site just keeps getting better and better every day.  I love stand-up comedy and have for as long as I can remember.  The stand-up comic database is a great idea, and I love that their works are incorporated into their bios. 

I own close to 100 stand-up DVDs and probably more than 150 stand-up albums.  I always keep my eyes open for new albums/dvds, but not all comics sell their albums through big resellers like Amazon.  Take Bill Burr, for example.  He has an album called “Emotionally Unavailable” that is absolutely hysterical.  Yet, if you don’t check billburr.com, good luck finding it.  If somebody were to catch Bill Burr and Comedy Central and rush to Amazon to look for a CD, they wouldn’t find one and would likely conclude he doesn’t have any.  The same holds true for Bobby Slayton (the “Pit Bull of Comedy").  He’s got 2 albums, neither of which are easy to find through typical resellers.  As a result of this fact, most people don’t even know these people have albums. 

I think having a database like you have envisioned will prove to be incredibly helpful, and will likely result in more albums sales for these comics ... which, in turn, will encourage them to release more CDs.  Everybody wins.

well thanx brother, it is a great idea database, you could also use torrent sites also to find comedy albums.

I don’t use torrents.  I’m talking about legit ways to find a comic’s albums.

I’m of two minds on torrents.

1) Comedy albums aren’t really a burgeoning art form. They’re more prevalent now than they were a few years ago yes, but there’s not a lot of money going into them. If the sales figures don’t hold up, more won’t get made.

Plus, a fair amount of comedy albums are self produced - the money was put up directly by the artist themselves. So with those, grabbing from a torrent takes money out of their pocket

So if an album is available for purchase in a store be it Amazon, iTunes, the Comedian’s website - somewhere. It should be bought directly through them.

2) BUT if the album is no longer available for purchase anywhere - except perhaps eBay. There’s no reason to not download it. You’re not taking money away from anybody - these people are leaving money on the table by now rereleasing these albums and I don’t think you should be penalized for waiting for them to wake up and release it again.

Not on the comedy album side, but I’ve downloaded British shows that weren’t here - I did with Spaced before it ended up on BBC America. But I ended up watching it on cable as well - which hopefully helped somebody’s bottom line somewhere.
