Bill was a true comedian. I’ve always said that most good comedians are the philosophers of our time and Bill’s “love of wisdom” has made for some great CD’s/DVD’s that we can cherish forever. A thinking man of comedy. R.I.P.

Remarkable, unique often imitated. Better yet Bill Hicks has been ripped off by just about everyone from his era once he died. He gave comics the same courage to cross the line that Lenny Bruce, George Carlin and Richard Pryor did for their peers. However, just like the three aforementioned comics, Bill Hicks has few peers, meerely inspired dopplegangers.

A master of his craft.  Brave and uncompromising material and brilliant delivery and stage presence.  He’s sadly missed.

A very unhappy, angry comic. I liked him the first time I listened, but his bitterness wore me down. His bright spot is his delivery, which is the stuff of legends. Not as groundbreaking to me, but funny at times.

The most courageous artist of my lifetime as well as the most brilliant.

Intellectual and comedic, Bill Hicks is a legend with material that was just as important then as it is now. One of the funniest comedians ever, and one of the most brilliant.

Few comedians can have an impact as profound as Hicks’. Nobody can hold a candle to Hicks’ style and wit.

Not only a brilliantly funny man, but his material does what comedy can be best at doing, it makes you think about what is being said. His delivery is wonderful, years on the circuit honed it. Listen to several versions of the same act, in bootlegs and officials releases, and you can hear the evolution of his timing on a joke until it becomes spot one. One of the greats.

Fearless; he eviscerates his topics: politics, culture, the drug war, religion.  So talented that comedy clubs more interested in booking Gallagher and Carrottop had to take notice.  Amazing.

I feel torn on this guy. Personally, I just think he’s that funny. He’s good at swearing and yelling which at the time he was performing, was new cutting edge, but now its par for the course. I just don’t want to get chastised by the rest of the comedy community for not being in love with Bill Hicks.

Best comedian ever!  Often imitated or plagiarized (I’m looking at you Denis Leary), Bill was an original that would always push the envelope of comedy.  Truly a comedian’s comedian!

The “holy grail” of comedy.  It took me till 2004 to learn of Mr. Hicks even though I was up on all the other truly greats of that era.  Have no idea how I missed Bill but I’ve done my best to get my hands on all the Bill Hicks I can find.  My hard drive groans from the magnitude of the “Bill Hicks Files” contained therein.  All Hail Bill-ez-abozo!  -musicmaniac
