Git-R-Done, Bitch!

Being a victim of your success is a weird faux Chinese curse (see Dave Chappelle suffering through audiences yelling “I’m Rick James Bitch!”), but being a victim of someone else’s success… that just sucks midget balls. Comic Doug Stanhope has posted a letter to Larry the Cable Guy, requesting that the blue collar comic die to terminate the “Git-R-Done!” catchphrase he’s sparked.

Stanhope points out that he can’t pause a beat for a joke anymore without a “flag-monkey” or “puddle-noggin” or “albino trailer-parrot” repeating Larry’s catchphrase. Stanhope also admits he’s not any exception to “whoring” (a reference to hosting the Man Show, not Girls Gone Wild), but with Larry the Cable Guy throwing the phrase on any number of T-shirts (including a south-shall-rise-again Confederate Flag version) you might see why “1,000 comics curse you nightly.”

Though Larry ain’t my thing at all, I can’t fault him for trying to ride that pony as far as it’ll take him. Stanhope can take heart that though Larry probably won’t die tragically, catchphrases usually take people exactly where they belong… Branson, MO.

If the audience is into your set, they won’t heckle you with other comics material. If you can’t git-er-done, Mr Stanhope, maybe you should get done. No, I won’t wish any kind of death on Mr. Stanhope, but I do wish that he considers giving up comedy, and marrying his more than slighly overwiight, toothless cousin, Earline, and moving to Alabama where he can establish a luctarive new career, selling highly collectable Larry the Cable Guy goods to great, God fearing, red neck Americans, at out of the way flea markets, across the deepest parts of the deepest south.

The unfortunate reality is that most of America is fairly under-educated, works a going-nowhere “job,” and drinks themselves into oblivion every weekend (well into middle age). It’s a sad state of affairs, but the majority of this country demands very little in it’s dining, way of life and “entertainment.” Simplistic seems to work best, otherwise you’re “gittin uppity.” Don’t make music that requires thought to understand (see 90% of “country” aka “pop” music), don’t make movies that don’t have lots of incendiary devices/nudity and catchphrases (’you go girl!’), don’t write books at ALL, and don’t open a restaurant that isn’t part of a chain and doesn’t have “zesty” buffalo wings or “jalapeno poppers” in it’s appetizer menu.

Hell, just look at the international embarrassment our political system has become since 2000. Two EXTREMELY tainted elections, “our” President breaking international law every day, killing our children for no good reason (Iraqis didn’t commit the 9/11 atrocity btw), shitting on the environment, shitting on the less financially privileged (the “inheritance tax” negatively affected roughly 2% of our population fyi)… where does it end? Clinton lied about getting head and it cost US roughly 70 million to find out. Bush lies about WMDs, Katrina, the war on Iraq, exposed CIA agents… but THAT’S OK.

We’re an incredibly stupid country, so why expect an incredibly stupid/lowest-common-denominator comic to NOT set the US of A on fire. It’s simplistic, baseline humor… fart jokes for “adults.” The same idiots that watch 3 hours of left turns (aka NASCAR) love the “cable guy.”

Counting the days until Armageddon…
